Kavala – The Cyan City

Panagia “The Old Town” – Kavala

What can I say about this city. Is the place where i was born. The place that i have spent the first most precious years of my life.

Located in the northern part of Greece, Kavala combines sea and mountains in the most beautiful way. Because of the amphitheatrical structure someone can enjoy the beautiful cyan sea during the summer but also admire the breathtaking landscapes of mount Paggaio and the river Nestos during the winter period. However, what makes Kavala city memorable is the amazing food. Fresh fish and delicious Greek «meze» plates all made with «Meraki» (when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing) can be found in the traditional Greek taverns by the sea and all around the small villages of Kavala.

Best period to visit: June to July or September

Climate: Humid subtropical climate

Festivals: If you get the chance, try to combine your visit to Kavala with one of the festival that will definitely leave you with a good dose of culture. The most well know Festivals are Cosmopolis , Ilios kai Petra(Sun and Stone), Festival of Philipi and Wood Water Wild festival.
Various cultural events are held in all municipalities of Kavala during the summer months .
